Winter’s Rain
By Mikey Silva

((Setting: Florida- USA, summer 2000))
The sun burns my eyes as I step from my door
I cannot breathe as it absorbs my body with its fiery glow
Salty sweat, like needles from beneath, pierces my pale skin
I retreat to hide from that which would burn my flesh

((Setting: Tubize- Belgium, winter 2001))
Rain falls softly upon the streets as I emerge from the Church
Mossy stone surrounding me chills my bare feet as I walk
The city is quiet, my heart is still, not a sound hangs in the air but it’s own
Water, like the tears of tiny angels weeping for the lost city, falls from the sky
It blankets me with soft velvety moisture, like the soothing spray of a river
I could stand here forever in the presence of God and his elemental creation
Refreshed by the life-giving water of the luminous grey-blue heaven, I return

((Setting: Florida- USA, summer 2006))
Again I step from shelter and shade to venture forth into the light
Eyes that with darkness have seen well, cry from the pain light gives
Yet they adjust, as have I again, but I miss the cold winds and the soft-kissing rain
When my rain comes here it stabs at my face, and brings me no joy, but a need for escape
I retreat yet again to the door of my home, wishing soft rains would visit me, time and again
But alas, ‘tis a dream, that my Home and my Home-
May be joined here with me with my nostalgic joys
This poem was inspired by *TaniDaReal's "I love the Rain" painting [link] .

What a miracle! The day after I wrote this, it rained all day like I'd never seen before in Florida. The air was cool, the sky was blue-grey, and the most amazing thing of all, it rained like I've only seen it rain in Belgium. Everything exactly as I had written in the poem. I actually cried. This was a reminder to me that God knows our hearts and wants us to be happy. It doesn't mean that God made it rain like that just for me, but it's just one of those miacles. God's divine plan for out lives is layed out so perfectly, that he even has the answer to our prayers on its way, even before we pray.

It's a simple disorderly semi-rythmic poem, that just expresses my basics feelings about types of weather. It's amazing how something as simple as going out to get the mail can be inspiring.
I'm not a big fan of Florida heat, but it's my original home. Then again, Belgium has good weather/atmosphere, but not too much to do. If only I could have the cool soft rain of Belgium follow me to the Disney World paradise of Florida. If the weather was "gloomy" here, tourists would come, and thus defeat the purpose of the fun atmosphere altogether. Oh well, I'll stick around here. I'd rather be entertained than comfortable. :D
